LET ME SHOW YOU MY POKEMANS

Yes, I know--it's yet another spoof on the infamous "Keep Calm" poster.
But you gotta admit that this one works pretty well with today's theme.

Hey, Internets--you know what I just realized?  That I've been doing this hat-blog-thing for almost three years and have not done one single, solitary post on Pokémon hats.  That might not sound like a major epiphany to some of you, but when you consider not only the deep impression that these pocket monsters have made on the geek circles but on pop culture as a whole, then it starts to sink in that this is actually more of a fantastic oversight.

Which is why I'm going to correct that today.  So let's get to it, shall we?

Well, can you think of a better way to start off a post about Pokémon hats than with a Poké Ball hat?  'Cause I sure can't.

I will say, though, the temptation to accompany this hat with something to the tune of "I have been lead to believe that you favor Mudkips above all the rest" is really, really strong right now.

And yes, I am aware that that is old meme.  As you might have gathered from the title of today's post, I don't care about things being old meme, so there you go.

While one might be tempted to write this Snorlax beanie off as being really simple, I find that the level of detail of the Snorlax itself is actually really impressive.   Also, Snorlax is one of the few Pokémon I can identify without any help (the other ones are Jigglypuff, Squirtle and Psyduck,) so I admit that I'm biased on this one.

And just because I'm pretty sure the Internet will sue me if I left this out, here's a Pikachu hat:

Because even a Pokémon noob like me knows this guy is basically the mascot of the whole franchise.  It'd be like talking about Disney and not mentioning Mickey Mouse, and while I may be guilty of certain oversights here and there, I'm not that dense.

And on that note, see you Wednesday!

By The Trunk

I like how the tree in this watercolor print is asymmetrical.  Because honestly, how many
symmetrical trees have you ever seen in your life?  My bet is that the answer is "not a lot."

Unless the calendar is lying to me, today is Arbor Day here in the States. Which means that not only is today a day where we are all encouraged to plant, care and educate about the importance of trees to our environment (which isn't a bad thing, honestly,) but I now finally have an extremely-tenuous-yet-still-somewhat-justifiable reason to post this hat:

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you--that is a hat fashioned in the likeness of top-notch adventurer Tree Trunks from Adventure Time.  Because dang it, I like Tree Trunks and there aren't a whole lot of elephant-themed hats out there, not to mention the fact that I couldn't seem to find any tree-themed hats that I hadn't already posted once before.  So you know what?  It's getting a post all to itself, and all I have to say about that is this:

Oh, and Happy Arbor Day.  See you next week!

Wibbly Wobbly Hatty Watty

Well, if you're going to do a Doctor Who-themed post, you might as well pay homage to
every single incarnation of the aforementioned Time Lord.  The fact that they're all pixelated is just a bonus.

You know what, Internets?  I haven't done an honest-to-goodness, straight-up geeky post in a while.  So how about I fix that with hats inspired by one of the longest-running/most successful sci-fi TV show in history?

Does that sound good to you?  I hope so, because it's all about Doctor Who today on HH.

To start with, there's this hat, which is inspired by the Fourth Doctor's epic scarf.  So it's all the stripey fun without having to worry about accidentally tripping over it/possibly asphyxiating yourself.

Of course, you can't have a Doctor Who-themed post without the TARDIS showing up, so here's a hat that may or may not be bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside.  Don't quote me on that, though.

The same is probably also true of those cyborg beings from the planet Skaro, so here's a Dalek fascinator, too.  However, I am fairly certain that it will not say "EX-TER-MI-NATE!"

And just because it popped up in every single search I did for this post, here's an Ood hat:

From what I've been able to glean from Wikipedia, they are not in any way, shape or form a distant  relative of Cthulhu or Zoidberg.  But you have to admit, the similarity of appearance is rather striking.

And on that note, see you Friday!

Straight From The Hood

This pretty much sums up my feelings for the garment commonly called the hooded sweatshirt.

I've got one word for you, Internets, and that word is "BRRRRRR."  Because apparently April has decided to be exponentially chillier than March starting this weekend, which has been a refresher course in things like "freeze advisories" and "layering clothing" and "being utterly cold and miserable for no dang good reason."

On the bright side, this cool spell does mean that my collection of hoodie sweatshirts does get a bit more use before spring gives way to summer.  And it also means that I can cram in one more hoodie post on here, because that's the rule I just made up: if it's not ridiculous to wear, it's not ridiculous to post about.

So on that note, let's get this party started.

First things first, the description of this hoodie claims that it is not an octopus hoodie, but a pocket monster hoodie.  But between you and me, I think it can be whatever kind of creature hoodie you want to it be as long as the creature in question has got tentacles.

Question:  Does the presence of a ruffle elevate a hoodie sweater into the realm of dress wear?  And if so, would somebody please buy me this for Christmas?  Because I desperately need to make this a part of my wardrobe.

To the makers of this hoodie--Appliqué:  You're doing it right.  *high fives*

I like how the Shakespeare quotes on this hoodie aren't just one big quote or quotes from just one play/sonnet--they are from all over the Bard's bibliography.  It's like a stealth pop quiz for Brit Lit.

And just because this needs to be shared, here's a Totoro hoodie sweater-dress:

And yes, I'm aware that this is actually geared towards cosplayers, but I don't care.  I would wear this thing around the house and  not even care.  However, I would wear pants, but that's just me.

See you Wednesday!

Nero Wolfe Would Love This Post

Hey--it was either this print, or a Georgia O' Keefe print.
Either way, today's amuse-bouche was going to be rather to-the-point.

...Or he would, if he weren't a fictional character.  In any event, today's post is all about those flowers from the family Orchidaceae.  And to start this off proper, here's a rather lovely orchid fascinator:

Although I have to admit that it's hard to call whether it's the sparkly bits on the orchid or the fact that the pattern on the main part of the fascinator is made of a birdcage veil overlay that really makes this awesome.

Aw, screw it--they both make it awesome.

Next, there's this purple orchid pillbox-style fascinator, which looks like it neatly splits the difference between Ladies That Lunch and Happy Hour.

And before you ask, yes--there are going to a few fascinators today.  In fact, here's another one:

Also, for those keeping track, this is also the second fascinator that involves birdcage without actually being a veil.

And just because it's not often I find some serious art-nouveau-type-stuff, here's an orchid headpiece:

And I heartily suggest you embiggen that, because it it worth seeing it in as much detail as possible.  It looks like it got swiped from some lady in a Théophile Steinlen advertisement or something.

And on that note, that's it for this week.  See you Monday!

By The Bagful

Maybe it's just me, but I always thought it would be fun to be the one who snagged
the mail bag as the train passed through.  Which probably why I like this print so dang much.

You know what we haven't seen in a while?  Bags with character.  And considering I just found some stellar examples of those, I think today would be an excellent day to showcase them, don't you?  So that is exactly what I'm gonna do, starting with these:

And yes, I am fully aware that this is the second time this week where I've kicked off a post with something fox-related.   Coincidence, or are foxes are the unofficial theme of the week?  Only time will tell...

This pencil case makes me think of Short Stack and his deep fascination with all things shark.   The only way it could be even more up his alley is if it were a dinosaur-Pokemon-shark hybrid, but I think this case looks pretty good as just a shark.

Meanwhile, I desire to make this tiny turtle clutch purse my own.  It's just so cute and colorful!

However, don't get to thinking that every bag I found is animal-related, as this crocheted drawstring bubblegum bag amply proves.

And last but not least, here's a Tardis bag:

Because if you're going to rock a bag with character, you might as well go with Doctor Who.

See you Friday!

Rhymes With Orange

It's neon lights like this one that really make me wish they would make a serious comeback.

If you ask me, one of the most underrated colors of the rainbow has got to be orange.  Now before you start to argue with me about this, just think about it for a minute.  Walk into a clothing store, and chances are pretty stinkin' good that you will be inundated with the holy trinity of colors: red, yellow and blue.  Green and violet might pop up here and there, but the majority of colors are going to be those three.  Orange might show up here and there, but mostly likely as an accent and very, very rarely as the sole color.

That's why today we're going to be looking at orange-colored hats.  Because orange deserves a little love, dang it.

First up, there's this sequined fox hat.  Because if you're going to talk about orange hats, I'm pretty sure you're contractually obligated to mention fox hats at least once.  So why not go with one that features pretty little sparklies?

And speaking of pretty, here's a beautiful orange cocktail hat. It's even got a pretty little bow and everything!

Then again, who cares about pretty when you can get an awesome multi-colored beard hat like this one?

I like the quirkiness of this gray-and-orange fascinator.  It looks like a modern art exhibit that you can wear on your head, and every word of that is a compliment.

And just because it's been a while, here's an orange octopus fascinator:

Hey--if I find 'em, I will post 'em.  Particularly if they work with the theme of the day, like this one.

See you Wednesday!

Getting Patchy

Maybe it's just me, but this patchwork mosaic reminds me of a coffee table with mug rings.
That is not necessarily a bad thing, either.

You know what we haven't looked at in a while?  Patchwork stuff.  We should totally do that.  Like now, for instance.

But, just for a change of pace, we're not going to do strictly square patches.  Because I like a challenge.

First up is this patchwork dread wrap, which is nice and stripey and pretty, and therefore an awesome addition to anyone's wardrobe.  Well, if they have dreadlocks, that is.

Next up is this lovely little beret, which is done in more of a paneled manner as opposed to stripes.  Also, the little lacy appliqué flower makes for a nice touch,  I think.

Of course, patchwork items don't have be comprised of fabric squares, as proved by this beaded fascinator.

And just because I love it love it love it, here's a patchwork cow hat:

Because honestly, who doesn't love a cute little cow every now and again?

And on that note, that's it for this week.  See you Monday!

Pour L'encolure Froid

According to the description, this collage swan is supposed to resemble a lyre.
I think it looks a bit like a bib.  LET THE DEBATE BEGIN.

Not sure about where you are on the map, but things have apparently decided to take at turn for the chilly around here.  Which is a bit irritating to say the least, seeing as Mother Nature had all the time in the world to be pulling this kind of stunt back when it was winter, but apparently didn't feel like getting around to it until just now, after we've already retired the heavy coats to the back of the closet, traded our shoes for flip-flops and so on.  Having to dig them all back out again just feels like a punishment, and we didn't even do anything wrong.

Well, okay--the global climate change might be is most likely what we did wrong, but still.  This step back temperature-wise remains about as welcome as a wicked case of shingles and is putting me in a mood that is twice as ugly.

Luckily, though, I did find some neckwear that cheered me up a little, what with them being all pretty to look at as well as warm, which is why today I'll be sharing them with you.  Who knows?  Maybe they'll cheer you up, too.

First up is this soft pastel collar, which looks both adorable and comfortable.  And from where I'm sitting, those are the best kinds of -able you can get.

Of course, if you prefer something that looks a little bit more professional, then you can't go wrong with this woolen necktie neckwarmer.

And speaking of dressy, I also found this Ascot-inspired scarflette, which can also double as an earwarmer. Versatility:  It's what's for dinner.

However, if you'd rather just have a straight-up neckwarmer, that doesn't mean you have to get one that is wintry in color.  You could get one with a theme as summery as strawberries, like this one.

And just because I have to, here's a honey badger scarf, complete with honey bees and dead cobra:

Because if you're going to cave in and wear a scarf again, you might as well wear one that features nature's baddest little mammal.

See you Friday!

Hippity Hoppity

I don't often wear brooches but if I had one like this, that would probably change.
And by "probably,"  I mean "I'd wear 'em like they were my pieces of flair."

Well Internets, I'm back, just like I promised and just in time for Good Friday.  Which is great, because that means I can finally share some of these bunny hats that I've been seeing around.  And if that doesn't make this a Good Friday, I don't know what does.

First up is this bunny-eared headband, which I like because it's stealthy.  I mean, you could just say that it's a very loopy bow, couldn't you?  But they're actually rabbit ears; they're just off to the side and stuff.

But then again, who wants to be stealthy when you can rock a big pair of custom-order fleecy ears?  They're proven to promote happiness, or so I have been lead to believe.

I like that this upcycled fascinator actually has a teeny-tiny little bitty rabbit figurine on it.  Because if there is one thing hats and fascinators alike are lacking these days, it is miniature creatures perched somewhere on top.

This crocheted bunny-ear hat looks like it would be perfect for those of us out there who may have to do our Easter egg hunts out in the cold.  Also, I like the colors, even if they are decidedly not spring-like.

And just because it fits my requirements of being both bookendy and awesome, here's a floral rabbit fascinator:

It's okay--you can admit that it's awesome.  'Cause it is.

And on that note, I think that's it for today.  So whether you celebrate Easter, Passover or the fact that Cadbury Eggs are going to be really stinkin' cheap come Monday, here's wishing you all the best this weekend and I'll see you next week!
